# Build and Navigate Complex Models With the Improved Semantic Builder Canvas

Build and manage your data models more efficiently with a modern, flexible authoring canvas. Focus on the logic of your data modeling rather than manual screen adjustments. Existing layouts are preserved, so you can start working immediately.

**Where:** This change applies to Data Cloud and Tableau Next in Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions. It’s also available in Data Cloud Developer Edition.

**When:** This update is available starting in February 2026.

**Why:** The traditional structured layout provided a clear foundation for building models. As your models grow in complexity, the updated canvas offers more flexibility and an intuitive way to explore large-scale data. The improvements fall into three main categories:

- **Navigation & Focus–** Explore complex models naturally with fluid panning. You can also select an object in the left pane to have the canvas automatically zoom in on it.
- **Visual Clarity–** Relationship lines now intelligently route around labels to prevent overlaps, and long object names wrap automatically for better readability.
- **Interaction & Placement–** Maintain visual context while inspecting data. The data preview drawer no longer hides the data object you select on the canvas. You can also use new placement guides to position objects precisely without overlapping other tables.
