# Model Custom Variables with Parameter Inputs

Drive scenario modeling by testing custom variables through manual parameter inputs. Parameter widgets now support text, number, and date entries, enabling you to see how dependent dashboard calculations respond to specific hypothetical values. Previously, users were limited to selecting from existing data, but now you can apply manual entries to model your financial or operational outcomes.

**Where:** This change applies to Tableau Next in Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions.

**How:** To build interactive scenario models, create a parameter in your semantic data model and select its data type. If you want your data to calculate updates, create a calculated field for the parameter. Next, add a Parameter widget to your dashboard and select the parameter you created. Finally, use the preview mode to test your work by typing in different values to see how the dashboard updates.
