# Set Up Passwordless Login with Passkeys (Generally Available)

Give users a fast, easy, and phishing-resistant alternative to passwords. Passwordless login with passkeys is now generally available. With this feature, users can log in with a built-in authenticator (such as Touch ID or Face ID) or a security key (such as a YubiKey or mobile device). Look forward to fewer password resets, fewer login issues, and happier users.

**When:** Passwordless login with passkeys was originally released as a beta feature in Spring ’26. As of April 2026, it's generally available.

**Where:** This change applies to Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic in all editions.

**Who:** This feature is available only for internal users, such as employees, who log in to your Salesforce org. It isn't available for Experience Cloud site users.

**Why:** Passkeys are phishing-resistant, making them more secure than password-based authentication. They're also more convenient for users. Because passkeys inherently use multiple factors for authentication, they satisfy the Salesforce multi-factor authentication (MFA) requirement. So, if users log in with a passkey, they aren't prompted to provide a second factor for authentication, saving time and effort with each login.

Passkeys are based on the Fast IDentity Online (FIDO) authentication standard. For more information on the benefits of passkeys, see the [FIDO documentation](https://www.passkeycentral.org/introduction-to-passkeys/how-passkeys-work).

**How:** On the Identity Verification page in Setup, enable passwordless login with passkeys. To make built-in authenticators or security keys available to users, enable them as verification methods in your org. Then, direct users to complete these two tasks: set up a built-in authenticator or security key, and save their username by logging in and selecting the "Remember me" checkbox on the login page. Users can then log in by clicking their saved username and using their registered built-in authenticator or security key.
