# Pass Outputs Between Actions in Prompt Builder

Pass data between actions in Prompt Builder to create dynamic and flexible workflows. Use data from prompt templates, flows, Apex, or retrievers to drive downstream actions and generate more contextual responses.

**Where:** This change applies to Lightning Experience in Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions with Einstein for Platform, or Einstein or Agentforce for Sales or Service add-on, or Agentforce Foundations.

**When:** This feature is available starting the week of April 6, 2026.

**Why:** Previously, actions could only accept static or manually entered inputs, which limited how data flowed between steps. This update enables you to pass outputs between actions, reducing manual configuration and allowing prompts to respond dynamically based on generated or retrieved data.

**How:** In Prompt Builder, configure an action to use the output of another action as its input. For example, use the output of a prompt template as input to a retriever or pass retrieved data into another prompt. When the prompt runs, actions execute in sequence, and each action can use data generated from earlier steps. You can view performance insights, including latency and token usage, for each action in the Performance Insights panel.
