Preserve Customizations and Inheritance When Cloning Context Definitions

When you clone an extended context definition, you can now maintain its inheritance from the parent standard definition. This enhancement ensures that your cloned definitions, including all custom nodes, attributes, and mappings, remain eligible for upgrades in future releases. Previously, cloning an extended definition broke the link to the standard source, requiring manual rework to apply upgrades.

Where: This change applies to Lightning Experience in Professional, Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer editions where Context Service is enabled.

When: This feature is available starting in March '26.

How: From Setup, in the Quick Find box, find and select Context Definitions. For the extended context definition you want to clone, click Arrow pointing down, and then select Clone. In the Context Definition clone window, select the Preserve Inheritance checkbox. This option is selected by default for extended context definitions. The new clone is created in an inactive state so you can edit it before activating it.
