Manage inventory allocation for sales orders and work orders across multiple locations with accurate, real-time visibility. View stock statuses, such as on-hand, allocated, and available, and soft-reserve inventory for specific orders. Assign inventory to orders to prevent overcommitment and maintain accurate inventory visibility, even during high-volume, concurrent transactions. This helps prevent stock conflicts, improves tracking accuracy, and supports smarter, more efficient fulfillment decisions.
Where: This feature is available in Lightning Experience for Automotive, Communications, Energy and Utilities, Manufacturing, and Media, where Asset Service Lifecycle Management is enabled.
Who: This feature is available to users with the Inventory Allocation and Inventory Search and Transfer permission sets.
Why: Tracking only the total on-hand quantity is often insufficient and can lead to over-promising and inaccurate order fulfillment. Allocating inventory with full visibility into inventory statuses allows you to clearly identify which portion of stock is truly available for new orders and which portion is already soft-reserved for existing commitments. This improves order fulfillment accuracy and supports more reliable operations.
How: Add the Inventory Allocation component to the Order and Work Order pages to view and create allocations for products available as line items.
