# Create a Seeding Template for ServiceNow

Use the Create New Template window to create an initial version of a seeding template for performing data seeding. By default, template creation is based on the blank template (Create From field = Blank template), which means that the created template does not contain any predefined nodes (tables).

1. Click Seeding.

The seeding Templates tab is displayed.
2. In the Templates tab, click + New Template....

The Create New Template window opens.

If the + New Template... button isn't available in the Templates tab, contact your administrator to grant you the required permission.
3. In the Create New Template window:
    1. In the Name field, enter the name of the new template.
    2. In the Description field, enter a description about the new template.
    3. From the Template Source field drop-down menu, select a service (a ServiceNow data source) from which to copy data when using the template in a seeding job.

ServiceNow data sources can be any of the following types: a Production Instance, a Sub-Prod Instance, or a Personal Developer Instance (PDI).
    4. Type of template: The Nodes option is automatically selected.

It is the only option that is available for a ServiceNow data environment (the Levels option is disabled). The selection defines the type of template to be created - a template that you will configure with data nodes.

With a nodes type template, you define the precise data to seed (copy) into a destination. You must configure the specific tables and their associated records to include in a nodes template.
    5. The Create From field contains the entry Blank template.

This entry results in the creation of a template that does not include any data nodes. You must then edit the created template and add the necessary data nodes to it.

For a ServiceNow data environment, predefined templates are not available.
4. Click Create.

After a brief processing period, the Template Builder tab opens and displays your newly created template in Edit mode. The template is in draft state and can be edited.

Publish the seeding template to make it available for use by others.
