# Seeding and Anonymizing Data

The Seeding application copies selected Salesforce objects from a production org or sandbox to a sandbox, supporting software development, QA, and training. The Anonymize application replaces data in Salesforce sandbox object fields with alternate values to privatize original data and verify compliance with privacy laws and regulations.

The Seeding application provides you with the ability to copy objects of your choosing from a data source and populate them into a data destination from a Salesforce production org or sandbox to a Salesforce sandbox.

Being able to accurately and repeatedly seed necessary objects supports organizations' software product development, product QA, and product training. To learn more about Seeding application features and functionality, see [Get Started with Seeding for Salesforce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.seeding_o_get_started.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Seeding populates data sets from one Salesforce org into another, which lets users develop, test, and train using accurate data. Extract data from a source org and use it to seed any sandbox with an identical data structure. Seeding also helps maintain object relationships, select specific records, and troubleshoot permissions or data issues.").

Own’s Anonymize application provides you with the ability to replace data existing in the (object) fields of a Salesforce sandbox with alternate values. These new values make the original data private to avoid sharing personal information (PII), sensitive information, or classified information. By anonymizing the data that they work with, product development organizations preserve information privacy and, thereby, comply with national and international laws and regulations protecting PII exposure.

To learn more about Anonymize application features and functionality, see [Get Started with Anonymize for Salesforce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.anonymize_o_get_started.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "The Anonymize application enables you to create anonymization templates for sandboxes. These templates disguise sensitive information by allowing you to select objects and fields for anonymization. A range of replacement options are available, tailored to the field type, for anonymizing the field data.").
