# Pair Salesforce Objects by Field Value with Field Matching

Use Field Matching to manually match source and destination objects by a field value instead of an ID. When you select a unique value, the Seeding application maps the source and target records to prevent duplicate values.

The Field Matching option is only available for Nodes templates in a Salesforce data environment.

This option is needed for records inserted via a third party or manually. By default, Seeding matches records by their IDs and assumes that any existing records not seeded have similar IDs in production, as they were inserted through Sandbox Refresh.

Note You can seed by field value for unique field only. To confirm if a field is unique, we recommend that you review Fields & Relationships, which is located under your Object Manager tab in Salesforce.

1. In the seeding template that displays in Template Builder tab, click the three dots.

    A drop-down menu opens.
2. Select Field Matching.

    The Field Matching window opens.
3. Click +Select object and field.
4. In the provided field pair, do the following:
    1. From the Select object drop-down, select an object. Seeding displays only the unique values for the selected field.
    2. From the Match to field drop-down, select the unique field to map your object to. You select only one field per object.
5. (optional) Click + to add another field pair, and then repeat step 4.
6. Click Save.

The seeding template redisplays in the Template Builder tab.
7. In the tab, click Publish to save your Field Matching selections.
