# Create a Nodes Seeding Template

Craft Nodes templates for Salesforce to precisely populate data objects, tailoring data seeding to your organization's needs. Manually add root, child, and optional parent objects for targeted seeding, offering greater control but requiring deeper knowledge of the data hierarchy.

To effectively configure Nodes templates with the necessary objects, it is critical that you understand your data schema and object relationships and what you are seeking to accomplish with the data that you are planning to seed.

Note When configuring a Nodes template, you are going to add each root object, each child object and each optional parent object (mandatory parent objects are automatically added). In contrast, when configuring a Levels template, you add each root object and then define the number of object hierarchy levels (from none to 4) below that root object to include.

Create a Nodes template for seeding data:

1. Begin the process by signing in to your Backup & Recover Platform.
2. In the menu bar along the top of the UI, click Seeding and then, in the Templates tab, click the + New Template… button.
3. Follow the procedure provided in [Create a Seeding Template for Salesforce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.seeding_o_create_template.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create an initial version of a seeding template for performing data seeding. By default, template creation is based on the blank template. This means that the created template doesn’t have any predefined nodes (objects) or predefined levels. When you create the template you define the template type: Nodes or Levels."). Make sure that in step 3d, Type of template, you select the Nodes option.

    ![Tip](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-platform-own_from_salesforce-264-0-0-production-enus/8ac98673-ede2-4046-a41e-2d5c846f24ff/images/icon_tip.png)

Tip In the Description field of the Create New Template dialog, we recommend listing those objects that you want to add as root objects in the Nodes template. If you don’t have any objects in mind, we suggest starting with the objects Account, Contacts, and Opportunities to get a sense of how the process works.
4. With your newly created Nodes template displayed in the Template Builder tab, configure it to address your specific data seeding needs. Follow the procedure provided in [Build the Nodes Seeding Template for Salesforce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.seeding_o_build_nodes_template.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Select the objects you want to seed and apply filters to ensure you are seeding the exact data required by your use case.").
    1. Learn about the [Node Context Menu for a Salesforce Nodes Template](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.seeding_o_nodes_template_node_menu.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Each node in a Nodes Template has an available options context menu, regardless of where that node (object) is located in the template hierarchy (Parent, Root, or Child).").

The size drop-down menu indicates how much data is currently in your template compared to the destination environment type of your choice. Please note that this is not the actual destination into which you are seeding, but rather a guide on whether it will fit in that org type (Developer Sandbox, Developer Pro Sandbox, Partial Data Sandbox, Full Sandbox).
    2. While building your template and before publishing it, remember to periodically click Save so that recently applied updates are saved.
    3. When you complete building the template, click the Publish button.
5. It's time to begin data seeding! First, [review seeding limitations](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.seeding_o_limitations_salesforce.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "When working with the Seeding app, take note of these points.").
    1. Next, manually execute a seeding job. Follow the procedure provided in [Execute a Seeding Job for Salesforce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.seeding_o_execute_job.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "After your seeding template is built, you can use it in a seeding job to copy (seed) data into a Salesforce sandbox or into a Salesforce production org. You can do this directly from the Template Builder tab. If the Seed... button isn't available in the Template Builder tab, contact your administrator to grant you the required permission.").
6. In the Advanced tab of the <seeding template name> dialog, you can change the existing Seeding Source or the Update Indexing option.
7. In the dialog’s Automations tab, you can select Salesforce automations for Seeding processing to disable.

    ![Warning](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-platform-own_from_salesforce-264-0-0-production-enus/8ac98673-ede2-4046-a41e-2d5c846f24ff/images/icon_warning.png)

Warning If you abort a seeding job before it has completed, Seeding processing cannot re-enable the selected automations that it previously disabled.
8. After clicking the Seed button, the UI displays the Recent Seeds tab. This tab contains an entry for your seeding job that reports a bunch of details about the job. See [Recent Seeds Information and Seeding Job Reports (Salesforce)](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.seeding_o_job_reports.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Seeding application processing generates information about each executed, seeding job Recent Seeds Information, Salesforce Automations Report, Seeding Report. These reports help you in understanding the seeding job's status and outcome.").

Note Editing a seeding template, while it is currently being used in a seeding job, doesn’t affect that job.

Congratulations! Using your first Nodes template, you seeded data from a defined Seeding Source into a selected destination sandbox.

To learn about scheduling seeding jobs, read [Schedule Seeding in Salesforce Overview](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.seeding_o_schedule_overview.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Schedule seeding jobs to automate multiple seeding tasks, which increases efficiency by reducing the need for manual intervention. Ensure necessary destinations are fully seeded with the required data in advance of upcoming sprints and development projects to maintain consistency. Choose one-time or recurring seeding jobs with error handling and alerts.") and [Schedule, Edit, and Delete Salesforce Seeding Jobs](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.seeding_o_schedule_seeding_job.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Schedule recurring and onetime seeding jobs in advance when you use Schedule Seeding. Enhance seeding efficiency by automating recurring tasks and manage all scheduled jobs from a central tab.") and follow the article’s provided procedure.
