# Activate Your Backup & Recover Platform

Prepare to manage and protect your Salesforce data when you activate the Backup & Recover platform during Seeding and Anonymize onboarding. Make sure to sign in or activate your Backup & Recover Platform before onboarding Seeding and Anonymize.

This task applies to customers who do not already have a Backup & Recover Platform. You must activate your Backup & Recover Platform before starting the Seeding and Anonymize onboarding. If you have already activated your account, skip to step 4 in the following procedure and sign in to your account.

1. Navigate to the [Sign In](https://auth.owndata.com/) page. At the bottom of the dialog, click Need help signing in?.
2. Click Forgot password?.

    The Reset dialog displays.
3. From this dialog, initiate resetting your password and activating your account.
4. We recommend additional sign-in access control safeguards available via the Backup & Recover Platform for either:
    - [Single-sign-on](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.platform_o_single_sign_on.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Own from Salesforce supports single sign on using SAML 2.0. Instead of relying on local authentication for password and security policies, you can set your own authentication using your managed Identity Provider.") (Salesforce recommends handling IP restrictions via the SSO provider)
    - Managing [IP restrictions](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.platform_o_config_ip_address_restrict.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Master Admins can configure what IP addresses are allowed to access the Own Data Platform. Changes to Permitted IP settings affect all the regions in the account.") and [Multi Factor Authentication](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.platform_o_mfa.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "MFA works by adding an additional layer of security to your online account. It requires an additional sign-in credential or authentication step, beyond just your username and password to gain access. MFA allows you to protect access to your account using an app, including Okta Verify, or a FIDO2 Authenticator (for example, Google Authenticator, Salesforce Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator).") (MFA) via the Own app
5. Once complete, [add a new backup service to your account](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.backup_recover_o_add_services.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Safeguard your critical business information by adding a backup service to your account. Each service you add can back up Salesforce production data, production metadata, sandbox data, or sandbox metadata. Backups then run automatically, securing your data so it can be recovered."). If you have purchased the Seed-only plan, this setup creates a 15-day retention period on the backups, with no more than 15 backups.
6. Once your initial backup is completed and you have at least two environments backed up, for example, a sandbox and a production org, you can continue this onboarding experience with the next section [How Do I Create a Levels Seeding Template?](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.seeding_o_and_anonymize_create_levels_seeding_template.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Levels templates for Salesforce provide a more streamlined approach to managing complicated hierarchy structures compared to Nodes templates. By reducing complexity and automating relationship creation, Levels templates offer simpler seeding without requiring full knowledge of the data source structure. Create and configure a Levels template by adding root objects and selecting up to four hierarchy levels.").
