# View Records with Custom Tabs

To view the external objects that you synced with your Privacy Center retention store, you can create custom object tabs.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: <strong>Developer</strong>, <strong>Enterprise</strong>, <strong>Performance</strong>, and <strong>Unlimited</strong> Editions. Requires the Privacy Center license.</td></tr></tbody></table>

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small permission">
        <colgroup>
          <col style="width:50%">
          <col style="width:50%">
        </colgroup>
        <thead class="slds-text-title_caps ">
          <tr class="">
            <th scope="colgroup" class="slds-cell-wrap" colspan="2" style="text-align:center;vertical-align:top;" id="d169017e66">User Permissions Needed</th>
          </tr>
        </thead>
        <tbody>
          <tr class="">
            <td data-label="User Permissions Needed" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d169017e66 ">To create and edit custom tabs:</td>

            <td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d169017e66 ">Customize Application</td>

          </tr>
        </tbody>
      </table>

Complete this task after you’ve created external objects to represent the data in your retention store. For more information, see [Access External Data with the Salesforce Connect Adapter for Privacy Center](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.salesforce_connect_privacy_center.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Connect your users to data that’s stored in a Privacy Center retention store.").

1. [Create a custom object tab](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.creating_custom_object_tabs.htm&type=5&language=en_US) for the external object that you want to view.
2. On the tab you created, replace the Display URL field with the object fields that you want to view.
    1. While viewing the tab, click the list view controls button.
    2. Click **Select Fields to Display**.
    3. Hide the Display URL field by removing it from the Visible Fields column.
    4. Add the fields that you want to view to the Visible Fields column.
    5. Save your changes.
3. Update the page layout for the external object.
    1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Object Manager, and then select **Object Manager**.
    2. Find and select the external object.
    3. In the Page Layouts section, select the layout that you want to edit. By default, only one layout is available to select when you create a new external object.
    4. Add the fields that you want to view to the page layout. Depending on the editor version you’re using, see [Customize Page Layouts with the Enhanced Page Layout Editor](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.layouts_customize_ple.htm&type=5&language=en_US) or [Customize Page Layouts with the Original Page Layout Editor](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.customize_layoutcustomize_ple.htm&type=5&language=en_US).

You can now view the external object data in the custom tab you created.
