Note Community licenses are used to access Experience Cloud sites.

Before you upgrade a user’s license, review [which user licenses can be upgraded](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.networks_license_upgrade_eligible.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "In general, you can upgrade from most customer licenses to the Customer Community Plus or Partner Community licenses.").

1. From Setup, enter Users in the Quick Find box, then select **Users**.
2. Click **Edit** next to the user you want to upgrade.
3. Select the new license, profile, and role for the user.
4. Optionally, specify a new profile and role.

Note If the account the user belongs to has no roles, we create one behind the scenes and assign the lowest role that exists in the hierarchy. If the account does have roles, you must choose one and assign the lowest role that exists in the hierarchy.
5. Save your changes.
