# Define Shift Rules in Scheduling Policy

To use shifts instead of the service territory member’s operating hours when determining available time slots, enable shift-specific rules in the scheduling policy.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience.</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: <strong>Enterprise</strong> and <strong>Unlimited</strong> Editions</td></tr></tbody></table>

1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Scheduling Policies, and then select **Scheduling Policies**.
2. Click **Edit** next to the scheduling policy you created.

If you don’t create and use a custom scheduling policy in your flows or API calls, use the Default Appointment Scheduling Policy.
3. To use shifts instead of using the service territory member’s operating hours, select **Use service territory member’s shift**.

If you select this option, then the operating hours aren’t considered regardless of whether the operating hours for the service territory member are defined.
4. To show the time slots based on the intersection of the service territory’s operating hours and shifts, select **Use service territory’s operating hours with shifts**.

You can only select the Use service territory’s operating hours with shifts option after you’ve selected the Use service territory member’s shift option.
5. Save your changes.
