# Configure State and Country Picklists

Set up state and country picklists to let users select states and countries from a predefined, standardized list instead of entering state and country data into text fields.

### Required Editions

State and country picklists ensure that you have consistent data. It also makes it easier to use this data for reports. See [Implementing State and Country Picklists](https://resources.docs.salesforce.com/230/latest/en-us/sfdc/pdf/state_country_picklists_impl_guide.pdf) for more information.

Note

- If you implement state and country picklists after setting up service territories and appointments, you must update the state and country in all service territories created before the implementation.
- Updating the state and country in all service territories created before the implementation also ensures no errors related to locations while saving changes to flow templates.
- When you edit existing appointments, update the state and country before saving. If you don’t update the state and country before saving, it can result in unexpected behavior.
