# Service Resource Absences in Salesforce Scheduler

Use absences to specify time periods that a service resource is unavailable to attend service appointments for.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience.</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: <strong>Enterprise</strong> and <strong>Unlimited</strong> Editions</td></tr></tbody></table>

## Considerations for Absences in Salesforce Scheduler

Here are some things to keep in mind when you create absences.

- When an absence is created, the service appointments that have been scheduled for the absence period aren't deleted automatically. You must either manually reassign such appointments to other service resources or cancel the appointments.
- When you create a recurring absence, Salesforce Scheduler automatically creates an absence record for each instance. To edit recurring absences, you must edit individual absence records.
- When users book appointments using flows, Salesforce Scheduler doesn’t show the time slots for absence periods. However, your users can still manually create appointments for the absence periods. So we recommend that you disable the New button on the Service Appointment tab.

## Create Service Resource Absences in Salesforce Scheduler

To specify the absence period of a service resource, use the Absences related list on the service resource page.
