# Define Rules for Finding Appropriate Service Resources in Salesforce Scheduler

Use a scheduling policy to enforce rules to help your users find the best service resources for an appointment. The scheduling policy ensures that an appointment meets the criteria that the policy rules define. For example, it considers service resources’ skills and service territory membership when searching for service resources. You can modify the Salesforce Scheduler Default Appointment Scheduling Policy or create custom scheduling policies and associate them with flows or use them in API calls.

- **[Scheduling Policy Rules in Salesforce Scheduler](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.ls_scheduling_policies.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Understand the scheduling policy rules that are available in Salesforce Scheduler.
- **[Select Scheduling Policy Rules to Enforce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.ls_scheduling_policies_in_flows.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
If you don’t create and use a custom scheduling policy in your flows or API calls, the Default Appointment Scheduling Policy is used. You can edit the Default Appointment Scheduling Policy and select the rules that you want to enforce during appointment scheduling.
- **[Create and Use Custom Scheduling Policies in Salesforce Scheduler](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.ls_custom_scheduling_policies.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
You can use one or more custom scheduling policies in Salesforce Scheduler flows or API calls. For example, you can create two scheduling policies with different appointment start time intervals. Then, customize your flow to invoke one or the other scheduling policy depending on the work type that users select when scheduling an appointment.
- **[Add Service Resource Preferences to Accounts for Salesforce Scheduler](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.ls_add_service_resource_preferences_to_accounts.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
To promote assignment of required service resources and prevent assignment of excluded service resources to service appointments, designate service resources as required or excluded on accounts.
