# Considerations for Multi-Resource Scheduling

In multi-resource scheduling, a primary service resource anchors the appointment and must be marked required. The primary service resources are the only service resources whose skills are matched to the skill requirements for an appointment. Other required service resources are matched to the appointment based on their availability and the primary resource’s service territory. Resources not marked required are considered optional.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience.</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: <strong>Enterprise</strong> and <strong>Unlimited</strong> Editions</td></tr></tbody></table>

This table summarizes how matching is done for different types of service resources when multi-resource scheduling is enabled.

Service Resource Types in Salesforce Scheduler
| Matches On | Primary Service Resource | Required Service Resource | Optional Service Resource |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Skill Requirements | Yes | No | No |
| Service Territory | Yes | Yes | No |
| Availability in Time Slots | Yes | Yes | No |

When anonymous scheduling is enabled, Salesforce Scheduler automatically selects a service resource for an appointment. As a result, even if multi-resource scheduling is enabled, Salesforce Scheduler can’t assign multiple resources to an anonymous appointment.
