Before enabling capacity-based scheduling, complete the [prerequisites](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.ls_prereqs_capacity_based_scheduling.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Before you use capacity-based scheduling, perform these prerequisites.").

1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Salesforce Scheduler Settings, and then select **Salesforce Scheduler Settings**.
2. Enable Capacity-Based Scheduling.

By default, after you enable capacity-based scheduling, the capacity of your shift work topics is set to 0. To ensure business continuity, populate capacity values in your shift work topics so that your schedule works as it did before in one of these ways.

    - Initialize the capacity for existing shift records using a script. For more information on using the script, see [Initialize Shift Work Topics with Capacity](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.ls_initialize_shift_work_topics_with_capacity.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Initialize capacity for shift work topics in your org.").
    - Set the capacity for shift work topics. For more information, see [Set the Capacity Limit for a Service Territory](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.ls_set_the_capacity_limit_for_a_service_territory.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Specify the number of appointments that can be scheduled for a shift work type.") and [Set Capacity for Shifts](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.ls_set_capacity_for_shifts.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "For each shift, set the number of appointments that can be booked for a particular work type.")

- **[Initialize Shift Work Topics with Capacity](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.ls_initialize_shift_work_topics_with_capacity.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
