# Considerations for Shifts

Here are some things to keep in mind when you implement shifts.

- The scope for Salesforce Scheduler Shifts is limited to setting up service resources’ working hours.
- Before you create a shift, ensure that an active service territory member record exists.
- For optimized performance, we recommend that you limit the number of shifts per resource per day to four.
- Service resources who are Experience Cloud users can set their own shifts only if they have the [Customer Community Plus, Partner Community, or Channel Accounts license](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.users_license_types_communities.htm&type=5&language=en_US).
- To view and set up shifts, ensure that guest and community user profiles have access to the Shift object.
- When using shifts, we recommend that you set up one work type group for one work type in a service territory.
- Work.com Shift management and Salesforce Scheduler don’t work in the same instance.
- Salesforce Workforce Engagement and Salesforce Scheduler don't work in the same instance.
- When you delete a shift that’s used to create an appointment, the corresponding appointment isn’t deleted automatically.
- If a period or day is specified as a service resource’s absence or a service territory’s holiday, a resource can still create shifts during that absence or holiday. But the time slots for that period or day aren’t shown while booking an appointment.
- When you view shifts in the schedule view, we recommend that you keep the shift record count below 200. If more than 200 shifts exist, use filters to reduce the shift record count.
- If the Appointment Distribution option is enabled and the Use service territory member’s shift option is selected in the scheduling policy, Scheduler shows the service resources by filtering. The resources are filtered based on the value in the Number of Resources to Show (Appointment Distribution) flow attribute. Salesforce Scheduler then considers the available shifts for the filtered service resources.
- If you try to edit or delete a confirmed recurring shift, Salesforce Scheduler warns you that the shift can already have existing appointments. The warning messages aren’t shown if Salesforce Scheduler co-exists with one or more of these products in the same instance:
    - Field Service
    - Public Sector
    - Shift Management
    - Workforce Management
    - Volunteer Management
- When you edit or delete a recurring shift, the change affects all shifts of the recurring series. Salesforce Scheduler doesn’t support editing or deleting only one shift from a recurring series.
- When you clone a shift from the shifts schedule view or the list view to create a shift, Salesforce Scheduler navigates to the record page of the new shift. To view the new shift in the view that you created the shift from, navigate back to that view.
- When you clone a shift, Salesforce Scheduler also clones the Engagement Channel Work Type and Shift Engagement Channel junction objects. To avoid errors while cloning a shift, ensure that you've required access to the work types and engagement channel types associated with the shift.
- When you create a recurring shift, Salesforce Scheduler shows a shift card—in the shifts schedule view—for each shift occurrence. All the compact layouts that appear when you hover over these shift cards show the start time and end time specified in the recurring shift record.
- The Shifts feature doesn’t support languages that use right-to-left scripts.
- When determining resource availability and concurrent slots, shifts and operating hours of service territory members are mutually exclusive.
- When using shifts, define the concurrency for resources at the shift work topic level.
- When using shifts and calculating slots, the concurrency information defined on the service territory member operating hours is ignored.
