# Grant Access to Authentication Settings for External Data Sources

For external data sources that use per-user authentication, grant users access through permission sets and profiles, so users can set up and manage their own authentication settings for accessing the external system.

### Required Editions

1. From Setup, enter Permission Sets in the Quick Find box, then select **Permission Sets** or **Profiles**.
2. Click the name of the permission set or profile that you want to modify.
3. Do one of the following.
    1. For a permission set, or for a profile in the enhanced profile user interface, click **External Data Source Access** in the Apps section. Then click **Edit**.
    2. For a permission set, or for a profile in the enhanced profile user interface, click **External Data Source Access** in the Apps section. Then click **Edit**.
    3. For a profile in the original profile user interface, click **Edit** in the Enabled External Data Source Access section.
4. Add the data sources that you want to enable.
5. Click **Save**.
