# Build an App or Agent in Builder Central (Beta)

Here's the fastest way to see how Builder Central works. Follow these steps to build, preview, and test your first app or agent.

1. Open Builder Central and start by typing what you want to build, or start from one of the starter prompts and edit it before you send it.
2. Describe what you want. For example, enter "Create a self-service customer support portal with an embedded agent that helps users troubleshoot issues using our knowledge base. Make it look modern, with our brand colors."
3. Review the project details. Confirm the objects and behavior the Build Agent proposes, and ask for any changes in the chat before you tell it to go ahead and start building.
4. Watch it build, then preview. The Build Agent builds the app, and you can follow along. Use the Design view to see the app's interface as it comes together, including how pages look and how you move through them, and use the metadata visualizations (such as data model, flows, and permission sets) to review the underlying metadata.
5. Refine it. Describe a change, select an element in the metadata visualizations to tell the agent what you need to change—such as "rename this field to Contact Email," or select an element in the Design view and fine-tune its appearance in the property panel.
6. Test it in a preview org. Select **Preview** to test the app against real data from the sandbox. Agents aren't deployed to the preview org, so to test an agent, publish to your sandbox and test it there. Preview orgs don't include Data 360 data.

That's the fast path. To understand each phase in more depth, from describing your app to deploying it, see [Build an App: The Lifecycle](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.builder_central_app_lifecycle.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Every Builder Central build follows the same general flow, whatever you're building. This flow describes the phases in a build from start to finish.").
