# Manage ServiceNow Backup Exclusion Rules

Create and verify rules to control your ServiceNow backup content with backup exclusions. Select items that you don't want backed up and easily view them in one place with a clear audit trail.

## Create a Backup Exclusion Rule

1. Navigate to the service you wish to use.
2. From the left-hand menu, select Backup Exclusions.
3. From New Rule, select from:

    - Group of Tables
    - Table

        ![Note](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-platform-own_from_salesforce-264-0-0-production-enus/8ac98673-ede2-4046-a41e-2d5c846f24ff/images/icon_note.png)

Note The name entered must match the Salesforce API naming convention. If the name entered is not an exact match, the relevant table or field will not be excluded, resulting in the object's inclusion in future backups and can result in errors.
    - Application

You can filter by entering the Excluded name in the search box.
4. Exclusion Reason. If you select Other, add a comment.
5. Click Save.
6. Click Save.

If you try to create a rule for a forbidden table, an error message appears.

If a rule for the same type and name already exists, the new rule won't be added.

## Verify a Backup Exclusion Rule

Once a new exclusion rule has been added, it will affect your next running backup.

Groups of tables and Table

To check the rule was correctly applied:

1. Go to the Backup History tab.
2. Select the backup you wish to check.
3. Check the Show empty tables check box.
4. Enter the Table name in the search to show the backup exclusions.

## Delete a Backup Exclusion Rule

1. Go to the service you want to use.
2. Select the Backup Exclusions tab.
3. Select the rule you want to delete, and click the X icon at the end of the row.

    A confirmation popup appears.
4. Click Remove.

    A success message appears.
