# Backing Up Special Objects in Backup & Recover for Salesforce

Backup & Recover excludes Knowledge Articles and custom big objects from backups by default. Review how each object type behaves before you add special objects to a backup.

- Knowledge Articles: Enable Knowledge Articles in Salesforce before you run a backup. Own backs up KnowledgeArticleVersions and their associated \*\_\_kav sObjects. Grant the Authenticated User read permissions on Knowledge Articles.
- Custom big objects: Backup & Recover excludes custom big objects—objects with names matching the pattern \*\_b, such as CustomObject\_b—from backups by default. When you include custom big objects, Backup & Recover backs them up during full backups. Backup & Recover does not support Find, Compare, Restore, and Data Privacy for big objects.
    
    Backup & Recover disables custom big objects by default. Contact support to enable custom big objects.
