# Create a Flow with a Connector as an Action

To integrate your flow with an external system, add MuleSoft for Flow: Integration connectors as actions to all existing flow types. You can add connectors to flows that trigger external system changes, records, schedules, Data Cloud-triggered flows, or autolaunched flows.

## Create a Flow from Scratch

Create a flow that uses an external system as an action.

1. In the Automation app, select the **Flows** tab, and then click **New**.
2. Select one of these [flow types](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.flow_concepts_type.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "A flow's type determines which elements and resources you can add and how you can distribute the flow. For example, you embed a screen flow on a page to gather information from visitors; or you distribute an autolaunched flow by using a custom button that users click to run the flow in the background. Similarly, you can add a Custom Error element only in a record-triggered flow, whereas you can add a Choice resource type only in a screen flow."):

    - Autolaunched Flow
    - Contact Request Flow
    - Individual-Object Linking Flow
    - Platform Event-Triggered Flow
    - Recommendation Strategy (Next Best Action NBA)
    - Record Triggered Flow
    - Schedule Triggered Flow
    - Screen Flows
    - User Provisioning Flow

The flow opens in Flow Builder.
3. If necessary, configure the Start element or trigger.

If you selected **Record-Triggered Flow**, when you configure the Start element, turn on the [**Add Asynchronous Path**](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.flow_concepts_trigger_scheduled_path.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Use scheduled paths in record-triggered flows to run some elements on a different path at a scheduled time. You can base the scheduled time on the record-triggering event or on a date or date/time field in the record.") option. Updating the record requires the user to have the Manage Integration Connections permission.
4. Add and configure the action.
    1. Click ![Add element](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-platform-platform_automation-264-0-0-production-enus/60568438-ec7e-4665-acd1-7c80dcbe60d5/resources-global/_corporate/images/flow_plus_icon.png) and then select **Action.**
    2. In the Search Actions panel, select **Connectors**.
    3. Select a [third-party connector](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.automate_flow_ref_third_party_connectors.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Use MuleSoft for Flow: Integration connectors in your flows for no-code connectivity to external systems. Each external system that connects to Flow Builder behaves in different ways depending on how the external system stores the information that you want to retrieve and manipulate. Review each connector's reference page to understand which triggers and actions are available.") and choose from its actions.
    4. Fill out the required fields for that action.
    5. [Create a new connection](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.automate_ala_connections_create_connection.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create a connection to an external system in the Automation app.") or use an existing connection.

        A connection test runs automatically.
5. In **Set Input Values for the Selected Action**, select a value for each field.

An input value can be a [primitive data type](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.apexcode.meta/apexcode/langCon_apex_primitives.htm) or an [object data type](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.apexcode.meta/apexcode/apex_classes.htm). If an input value is an object data type, you can configure any of the fields on the object. Required input fields are selected by default; however, you can select more fields to include in your input values.
6. In the Body section, to select fields to map, click **Select Fields**. After you select the necessary fields to map, click **Done**.
7. Map the fields.

To create and manage reusable value maps, see [Create and Manage Value Maps](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.automate_flow_build_manage_value_maps.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create, update, and delete value maps from the Global Flow Resources page to reuse mapping logic across flows.").

    - For simple mappings, you can use Inline View by using the Friendly Resource Picker.
    - Complex mappings, such as lists, requires the use of Transform View. Mappings from Inline View persist when you swap to Transform View. See [Transform Data in Flow](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.flow_build_logic_transform.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Automate how you transform data between Salesforce and an external system using the Transform element. You can create mappings between the source and target data, or set fixed values for the target data."). To apply value mapping in Transform, see [Use a Value Map in Transform](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.automate_flow_build_manage_value_maps.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Apply a value map in Transform to translate input values before writing them to a target field.").

    ![Tip](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-platform-platform_automation-264-0-0-production-enus/60568438-ec7e-4665-acd1-7c80dcbe60d5/images/icon_tip.png)

    Tip

To make sure that the flow continues after a brief pause, add a [Wait for Amount of Time](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.flow_ref_elements_wait_for_amount_of_time.htm&type=5&language=en_US) element to your flow after a Create, Update, or Delete action. By selecting **1 Minute** in the Amount of Time field, you make sure that the system processes changes before the third-party action proceeds.
8. Optionally, select **Show advanced options** to see if a new version of the connector is available.
9. Save, test, debug, and activate the flow.

## Create a Flow from a Template

Use a pre-built template that uses an external system as an action.

1. Choose how to access the flow templates.
    - Select the **Integrations** tab and select a [third-party connector](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.automate_flow_ref_third_party_connectors.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Use MuleSoft for Flow: Integration connectors in your flows for no-code connectivity to external systems. Each external system that connects to Flow Builder behaves in different ways depending on how the external system stores the information that you want to retrieve and manipulate. Review each connector's reference page to understand which triggers and actions are available.") from the **Get Started with Connectors** section.
    - Select the **Flows** tab, and then click **New**, and then click **Triggered Automations**.
2. Select a template and click **Next**.
3. Enter values for **Label**, **API Name** and **Field API Name**.
4. Optionally, set custom fields.
5. Click **OK**.

The flow opens in Flow Builder. The template has a pre-built flow that offers a starting point with established logic and field mappings. Your flow has errors until you [configure your connections](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.automate_ala_connections_create_connection.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create a connection to an external system in the Automation app."). Customize the other elements in your template to your specific needs.
6. Save, test, debug, and activate the flow.
