# Export to Amazon S3 Bucket

Export data from the Archive managed package to an Amazon S3 bucket. A S3 bucket covers prerequisites, important considerations, and detailed steps for setting up the export process. These steps include entering AWS credentials, choosing export settings, scheduling automatic exports, and verifying the export.

Note This content relates to Archive. For Salesforce Archive, see [Store Data Externally with Salesforce Archive](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.archive_overview.htm&type=5&language=en_US).

To export data to an S3 bucket, create an S3 bucket in one of the AWS regions. Refer to [Creating a Bucket](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/userguide/create-bucket-overview.html) in the Amazon S3 User Guide for detailed instructions.

Before exporting data:

- Create an S3 bucket in your AWS account.
- Generate an IAM Access Key with write access. If you create the access key as an admin, it automatically has Read/Write permissions.

Important Considerations

- Use a one-time full export with the `Export All Objects` option for up to 100,000 records. For datasets exceeding this limit, use [incremental exports](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.archive_o_archive_incremental_export.htm&type=5&language=en_US). Configure incremental exports using the Schedule Automatic Exports feature after an initial export.

- We don't assume responsibility for data security, privacy, or protection after the data is exported from Archive to external storage. You're solely responsible for managing your S3 bucket's security, such as bucket, policies, and permissions.
- Export only to storage that matches your account with Own Archive. For example, if you're running on AWS, export to an S3 bucket. Exporting to an S3 bucket includes all attachments.

To export data to your S3 bucket:

1. At the top-right of the Home page, click the Export icon.

    The Export Data window opens.
2. From the Export dropdown list, select **S3 bucket**.
3. Provide these AWS credentials.

    - AWS Access Key ID: Enter an IAM access key ID.

        Example key: `FAKEKEYAKIA2EYKPPXN`
    - AWS Secret Access Key: Enter the corresponding secret access key.
    - S3 Path: Specify the S3 bucket name where the data is stored.

Optionally, you can create a folder in your bucket and add it to the path.

        Example folder: `s3-bucket-name/folder/`
    - AWS Region: Enter the region where your S3 bucket is located.

        Example region: `us-east-1`
4. Select an export setting.

    - **Export All Objects**: This option exports all available objects to the S3 bucket.
    - **Export Selected Objects Only**: Select specific objects to export. The initial export includes all selected objects. Subsequent exports only contain incremental data.
5. Optionally, schedule an automatic export.

If you want to export new data on a regular basis (incremental export), check **Automatically export new data**. This feature is recommended for data sets larger than 100,000 records after an initial export.
6. Click **Save & Export**.

The system generates a snapshot of the archived data at the time of export. Data archived after the process begins isn't included.
7. Go to your S3 bucket to confirm the export.

A new folder appears with the exported data.

Every export generates a unique Request ID, which you can find at the top of the S3 bucket page. This ID includes a unique number, followed by the export date and time.
