## Default Field Settings

| Setting | Description |
| --- | --- |
| Name | Field name. You can change the field label that prospects see on the form. |
| Tags | Add tags to organize your custom fields and other items. |
| Salesforce.com Field Name | Syncs the field with a Salesforce field. Default fields are automatically mapped. See [Default Prospect Field Mapping](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.pardot_default_prospect_field_mapping.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "To facilitate syncing between systems, certain prospect fields are mapped to lead or contact records when you verify your Salesforce connector in Account Engagement. In most cases, Salesforce is the primary system.") for more information. |
| Sync Behavior | If you’re using Salesforce, this option controls your field's sync behavior. See [Prospect Field Sync Behavior](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.pardot_prospect_field_sync_behavior.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "For most fields, admins can set sync behavior to control whether a field can be updated in Account Engagement, Salesforce or both.") for more information. |
| Set a default mail merge value to be used when this field does not have a value: | Default value to populate variable tags when a prospect field is empty. See [Add Default Mail Merge Values to Fields](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.pardot_add_default_mail_merge_values.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Set up a default mail merge value to appear when there’s no value available for a prospect field. For example, set the First Name field to show 'Valued Customer' if the first name is missing from a prospect record.") for more information. |
| Use pre-defined values (for radio buttons and dropdowns): | Select this option to have prospects select from a list of values. If you update the field, add new values and delete the old ones. Changing a value overwrites the value in the prospect record and affects automation rules. |
| Validate on Import | Compares prospect field values against the field’s predefined values and imports only prospects with acceptable values. This setting is available only when **Use pre-defined values** is enabled on a field. |
| Type | Changes the field’s data type. See [Prospect Field Types](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.pardot_field_types.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "The field type defines the kind of data a field captures. Several field types are available in Account Engagement.") for more information. |

## Custom Field Settings

| Setting | Description |
| --- | --- |
| Name | Field name. You can change the field label that prospects see on the form. |
| Tags | Add tags to organize your custom fields and other items. |
| Salesforce Field Name | Syncs the field with a Salesforce field. |
| Sync Behavior | If you're using Salesforce, this option controls your field’s sync behavior. See [Prospect Field Sync Behavior](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.pardot_prospect_field_sync_behavior.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "For most fields, admins can set sync behavior to control whether a field can be updated in Account Engagement, Salesforce or both."). |
| Record and display multiple responses | Allows multiple values to be stored in the field as a list. The most recent value appears at the bottom. When a field has this setting enabled, it can’t be used as a variable tag. |
