# Use Dynamic Content in an Email

To add variations of content for different people in a classic email, add dynamic content with merge fields.

1. Open a classic email, and then click where you want to add dynamic content.
2. In the editor, click ![lightning bolt icon](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-mktg-pardot-264-0-0-production-enus/5fef4d4f-9a34-45c6-8cd3-e3200b9eeba8/pardot/images/pardot_dynamic_content_icon.png).
3. From the first dropdown, select the dynamic content to include.
    
    If you’re working with a plain text email, edit the source code and remove the dynamic content’s HTML tags.
4. Use the preview dropdown to preview different variations.
5. To insert the content merge field, click **OK**.

When a recipient opens the email, the dynamic content variation appears.

Verify the dynamic content by creating a test prospect that matches the criteria for each variation. Then add the prospects to a test list.
