# Add Compliance Controls for Governance in Marketing Planning and Operations

Marketing Planning and Operations supports only manual compliance controls, not automated validations. After you create a control and activate a version of it, the marketing team can add it as a review on their marketing work.

Tip Create and activate your compliance controls from the Compliance Controls list view, accessible on the App Launcher.

1. Create a manual compliance control.

    See [Create a Non-Validation Compliance Control](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ind.business_compliance_suite_nonvalidation_controls_setup.htm&language=en_US).
2. Add a version to the control, and then set the version to active.

A control is available to the marketing team only after it has an active version. See [Activate a Compliance Control](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ind.business_compliance_suite_validation_control_activate.htm&language=en_US).

After you activate a control, the marketing team can add it as a review on a campaign, marketing program, or marketing tactic.

Someone requests a review for a specific piece of work, or a company requires a control across a whole category of work.
