# Example: Track Registrations for a Campaign Goal in Marketing Planning and Operations

The events team at Northern Trail Outfitters (NTO) sets a goal on a webinar campaign to reach 2,000 registrations. The registrations come from an external system, with no campaign field. They want the goal to track registrations automatically, without manual updates. So, the admin ingests the registrations as a custom data object, joins that object to the campaign, and then creates a metric that counts registrations. Use this example when your metric's data has no campaign field, so you join it to the campaign in the semantic model.

1. Ingest your data into Data 360 as a custom data model object and include a column that names the campaign.

For example, ingest webinar registrations from your event platform. See [Create a Custom Data Model Object](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=data.c360_a_create_custom_data_model_object.htm&language=en_US).
2. Add the custom object to your semantic model.

See [Manage Data Objects in Tableau Semantics](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=analytics.c360_a_sl_data_objects_manage.htm&language=en_US).
3. In the semantic model, join your object's campaign column to the campaign.

See [Create a Relationship Between Data 360 Objects](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=analytics.c360_a_sl_relationship_create.htm&language=en_US).
4. Create a metric on the custom object for the result your goal tracks.

For this goal, create a metric that counts registrations. See [Create a Metric for a Semantic Model in Data 360](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=analytics.c360_a_sl_metrics_create.htm&language=en_US).
5. Include a time dimension on the metric so that each linked goal pulls its actual within the goal's start and end dates.

For example, base the metric on the registration date so that a campaign goal running from January 1 to March 31 counts the registrations in that quarter.

A goal owner links the registrations metric to the webinar campaign's goal. The goal then uses that join to find its campaign's registrations, and counts only the registrations within its start and end dates. If the join can't tie the data to a campaign, the goal counts nothing, and its actual stays 0.
