# Manage Marketing Objects

You can create a marketing object by importing data from a CSV file. You can also delete a marketing object that you don’t need.

[View supported editions](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_editions.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Marketing Cloud Next is available in Growth and Advanced editions, and requires Salesforce Enterprise or Unlimited editions. Some features are limited by edition or purchased add-on. All functionality is available in Lightning Experience only.").

## Create a Marketing Object by Importing a File

Upload a CSV file to create a marketing object and load data into it in one step. The resulting marketing object contains only the columns specified in the CSV file that you provide. Marketing Cloud Next infers the data type for each column based on the data in the input file.

## Refresh the Data in a Marketing Object

    Note The file that you select must have the same columns as the marketing object.
6. Click **Upload**.

## Add and Modify Fields to a Marketing Object

Add new fields to an existing marketing object to expand your data structure. You can add fields at any time, whether your object is empty or already contains data. You can also modify most field properties without affecting existing data in your marketing object.

            </tr>
          </tbody>
        </table>

1. On the Data Management tab, from the Marketing Data panel, select **Marketing Objects**.
2. From the list of marketing objects, select the object to add fields to.
3. Click **Edit**.
4. Click **Add Field**.
5. Enter the Field Name, API Name, Data Type, and Primary Key. Configure field properties based on the data type.
6. To modify an existing field, click the pencil icon next to it and update the field properties.

    Field API name, Data type, and Primary key designation can’t be changed after you create a field. If you need to change these properties, delete the field and create a new one. Deleting a field permanently removes all data in that field.
7. Save your changes.

    After you save your changes, the process typically completes in a few seconds. While the update processes you can't make additional changes to the object's schema. The object remains available for data operations like queries and record creation. If a field shows a "Read Only" indicator, a schema change is currently in progress for that field or the object. Wait for the current change to complete before making additional modifications.

## Insert Records to a Marketing Object

Add individual records to a marketing object when you need to manually enter a small number of records. For larger data loads, use CSV import instead.
