1. From the Content tab, open your preferred marketing workspace. Select **Add** | **Content**, and then select a content type.
2. Select a brand to apply, or keep the default brand.

If your marketing workspace admin or manager assigned a default brand to the workspace, Marketing Cloud Next automatically applies that brand.
3. Add or update the components on the canvas.
    - To add a component, drag it to the canvas where you want it to appear.
    - To update a component, select it on the canvas, and edit the content on the canvas or in the property panel. Use the undo and redo buttons as you edit, and the style tab to customize colors, layout, and other style properties.
    - To remove a component, select it on the canvas and click ![a trash can icon](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-mktg-mktg_all-264-0-0-production-enus/e92be4e1-4bef-47a5-a11d-95f4ea1f7d7a/mktg_all/images/mktg_content_builder_toolbar_trash_icon.png) in the toolbar.
4. Add or adjust sections and structure with layout components.

Save your work as you go.
5. To use an extension, click ![Open Extensions](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-mktg-mktg_all-264-0-0-production-enus/e92be4e1-4bef-47a5-a11d-95f4ea1f7d7a/mktg_all/images/mktg_content_cms_extensions_icon.png), and then select an extension from the menu.

Developers can build extensions and add them to the content builder. To learn more, see [Extensions in CMS](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/platform/cms/guide/cms-developer-guide.html).
6. Before you save, enter a descriptive API name to help you find the content in metadata deployments and packaging. These names can't be changed.
7. To review your work after you save, click **Preview** in the main toolbar.
8. To make your content available for use, publish it.

To duplicate a content record, create a copy of it from the content detail page.

Note When you create a copy of a marketing email that includes personalization, the copied email doesn’t include some elements.

- Dynamic content: The copied version includes the default variations of components from the original. The copied version doesn’t include other variations or the personalization point, decisions, and rules.
- Recommender data source: The copied version doesn’t include the recommender, but does include the merge fields and repeaters that use the recommender. Add the recommender to the copied version or remove all elements related to the recommender.
