# Set Up Agentic Content

Before marketers can generate and refine agentic content and images, prepare your org. Confirm prerequisites and permissions, turn on required channels, configure personalization, and set up the channels you want to create agentic content for.

[View supported editions](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_editions.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Marketing Cloud Next is available in Growth and Advanced editions, and requires Salesforce Enterprise or Unlimited editions. Some features are limited by edition or purchased add-on. All functionality is available in Lightning Experience only.").

## Prerequisites

Confirm that the prerequisites are set up.

## User Permissions

The Marketing Cloud Admin permission is required to configure most settings in Marketing Cloud Next. See [User Permissions in Marketing Cloud Next](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_admin_permissions_ref.htm&type=5&language=en_US).

To define roles for accessing content in the agentic content workspace, see [Collaborate on Content](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_ac_collaboration.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Work together with your team in real time. Share workspaces with team members, see who else is viewing or editing a workspace, and comment on content to gather feedback before you publish.").

## Configure Channels for Agentic Content

Before you generate content, set up and turn on the channels you want to create content for. Email, SMS, RCS, and MMS are supported.

| Channel | See |
| --- | --- |

## Content Personalization

Personalizing marketing messages with your business data improves the customer experience and increases engagement. When working with agentic content, you can add data variables, merge fields, and more complex personalization directly in your prompt. The underlying HTML, Handlebars scripting, or AMPscript are automatically generated for you. You can reference various data sources to personalize your content and some of those data sources might require setup.

- **Data Graph**: To personalize content with merge fields, set up a data graph for marketing purposes. See [Set Up a Data Graph](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_data_graph_setup.htm&type=5&language=en_US). You can select data attributes from the data graph to add as merge field placeholders to your content.
- **Built-in Data Providers**: In your content, you can add variables that refer to attributes from built-in data providers, for example for `$individual`, `$context`, and `$organization`. These variables follow [Handlebars scripting](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/marketing/handlebars-for-marketing-cloud-next/overview) syntax. See [Built-in Data Sources](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/marketing/handlebars-for-marketing-cloud-next/guide/mcn-handlebars-guide-data-sources.html#built-in-data-sources).
- **Custom Content Variables**: From the Properties panel, you can add a custom content variable, which adds a placeholder to content that populates at message send time. You can use text, boolean, date, date time, and number data types, as well as record ID, which references a Salesforce record. Content variables use the {{token}} syntax. You can map these content variables to any data source available in Salesforce Flow, including MuleSoft and HTTP connectors.
- **Marketing Objects**: Reference data from a marketing object to personalize content. A [marketing object](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_data_objects.htm&type=5&language=en_US) stores data that you import from a file for your marketing use cases.
- **CRM Objects**: Personalize content with your most current business data by using standard or custom Salesforce objects, such as Cases or Leads.

Connect a data source in the current workspace by including or entering a request in your prompt. You can also add or select a data source manually in the sidebar menu.

To preview how personalization resolves for a specific recipient, see [Preview and Publish Content](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_ac_preview_publish.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Preview content across devices and locales, preview personalization as a specific recipient, and send test emails before you publish. Publish content from your content workspace to Salesforce CMS so that it's available to use in campaigns.").

## AI Usage Limits for Agentic Content

Usage is tracked per org, per month. There are separate maximum limits for content generation (such as SMS, email, RCS, MMS, variants, and translations) and image generation. All users with access to agentic content share the org's monthly limits.

In the trial version of agentic content, the limit for content generation is 30. Any generation or regeneration request of a complete message or part of a message counts as a single content generation. For example, you ask to generate a new variant of an email message and also request to regenerate the heading of the email. Each request is deducted from the content generation limit. The limit for image generation is 10. Any new image generation or regeneration request is deducted from the image generation limit.

When monthly limits are met, agentic content generation features are turned off for all users in the org. They’re also unavailable in the agentic content workspace UI.

- **Content generation**: The prompt window or panel is unavailable. Contextual actions such as **Regenerate** and **Translate** (including Translate To and Retranslate) are also unavailable.
- **Image generation**: Image actions such as **Surprise Me** (Regenerate) and **Edit with Prompt** are unavailable.

Non-AI features remain available in the workspace, including manual editing features.

Usage limits reset on the first of every month at 12:00 AM in the org's local system time. Unused allocations from the previous month don't carry over.
