# Work with Content Variants

Create alternate versions of generated content to test different creative directions, audiences, or locales while keeping the same campaign context and grounding. Make targeted edits, update images, change personalization options, generate a localized variant, or create other options with differing subject lines. For example, if your marketing brief or prompt defines more than one audience, you can request to generate a variant with a unique style, tone, and data strategy for each audience.

1. Open the workspace that contains the messages you want to vary.
2. Select a message and create a variant.
    - Ask the agent to create variants. For example, enter a prompt such as `Generate two new email messages for Audience 1 and Audience 2. The tone for Audience 1 should be conversational and the tone for Audience 2 should be professional.`
    - Make edits, image updates, or personalization changes to create an alternate version of the message.
3. Review and refine each variant as needed before you publish.

See [Refine Agentic Content](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_ac_refine.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "In the prompt window, ask to refine generated content for email and messaging channels, including headlines, subject lines, tone, images, and other elements.") and [Edit Content Manually](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_ac_edit_manual.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Edit generated content for email and messaging channels directly for precise messaging and design control, including HTML, CSS, and image updates. Select an element in the canvas, such as text, an image, or a button, to reveal editing tools available for that element.").

You can publish one or more approved variants to Salesforce CMS so they're available to use in campaigns for testing or specific audience targeting. See [Preview and Publish Content](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_ac_preview_publish.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Preview content across devices and locales, preview personalization as a specific recipient, and send test emails before you publish. Publish content from your content workspace to Salesforce CMS so that it's available to use in campaigns.").
