# MDP Create a Calculated Dimension from the Calculated Dimension Tab

Create calculated dimensions on top of existing data and refer to them across your workspace.

1. On the **Harmonize** tab, expand **Calculated Fields**, and then expand **Calculated Dimensions**.
2. Click **Add New**.
3. In the **General** section, name the dimension, add a description, and select the type.

The type affects the format in the widget settings. In most cases, select **Text**.
4. In the **Advanced** section, you can link a measurement to the calculated dimension’s formula to populate lists with the dimension’s values. For example, you have a calculated dimension that returns an email name with the related measurement of clicks. When the calculated dimension is used in a pivot table, the returned email name values are only emails that had at least one click within the date range that the pivot table is filtered on. If no related measurement is used, all email names are returned, including those without clicks.
5. In the **Expression** section, enter the expression that you want to base the calculated dimension on. For example, if your customers’ email names consist of multiple concatenated values, you can create a calculated dimension to extract the values and create fields using the formula `EXTRACT([Email_Name],'_',1)`.
    1. Create an expression using the list of available dimensions and functions. To add a function to your expression, click it or start typing for auto-complete.
    2. Apply any of the options that appear at the bottom of the screen.

        - **Full Screen**—View the expression section in full-screen mode.
        - **Auto Format**—Format your code into the standard correct structure.
        - **Comment**—Enter a comment within your expression.
        - **Uncomment**—Remove your comment from the expression.
        - **Code Validation**—Validate that your expression is accurate.
        - **Test**—Test your expression.
6. Click **Save**
