# MDP Calculated Dimensions

A calculated dimension is a non-numerical field or dimension that you can create on top of your existing data. Calculated dimensions don’t exist physically in the database. Rather, each calculated dimension represents a query that can be referenced to from any report or pivot table.

You can create and manage calculated dimensions from the Calculated Dimension tab within the Calculated Fields menu under the Harmonize tab.

You can use a calculated dimension to:

- Remove unwanted characters or spaces. You can also use it to shorten a name, such as a long website name, without affecting the data.
- Remove unwanted spaces from dimension values. If you have a campaign name with too many spaces in between the words, you can remove the additional spacing, leaving a single space between words.

- **[MDP Create a Calculated Dimension from the Calculated Dimension Tab](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mcidp_dimensions_calculated_create.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Create calculated dimensions on top of existing data and refer to them across your workspace.
- **[MDP Related Measurements in Calculated Dimensions](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mcidp_dimensions_calc_related.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
A related measurement is linked to a calculated dimension and used to populate the dimension values in a list. You can add a related measurement when creating a calculated dimension, in the Advanced section.
