# Create a Data Stream Template

You can create a data stream template for a TotalConnect data stream or an API data stream. To create an API data stream you must have at least one template for the source in your workspace.

1. From the **Import** tab, select **Data Streams List**.
2. To create a template for an existing data stream, select the data stream, click **More** and select **Create Template**.
3. To create a template while creating a new data stream, click the settings next to the **Automate Data Refresh** button and select **Create Template**.
4. Name your template. The template name must be different from the data stream name.
5. Choose whether the data stream template is visible in the account level or just the workspace level.
6. Click **OK**.
    
    Your template appears in the Data Stream Templates list. You can view, edit, or share your template.
