# Apply a Data Stream Template

Apply data stream templates to create a data stream.

1. From the **Import** tab, select **Data Stream List**.
2. Click **Create New**, and then click **TotalConnect**.
3. Click **Use Template**, and select the template you want to use.
4. You can either upload your source file or continue without one:
    1. To upload a file, click **Browse** or drag your file. You can preview your source file, then continue to the mapping stage and advanced settings. The mapping and settings are based on your template. You can edit if needed.
    2. If you decide to upload your file at a later time, move to the mapping stage. You can map your source fields to the MDP data fields. You can upload your data at any time.
        
        Since you didn’t upload data initially, the first file you upload to the data stream serves as the data stream’s source file.
5. Continue setting up your data stream as required.
