# MDP Define How Updates Affect Existing Data

Define how new data updates the existing data in the data stream by changing the load mode.

1. Navigate to the **Import** tab.
2. Expand **Data Streams List**.
3. Create a data stream or edit one.
4. At the bottom of the Data Stream page, click **Advanced**.
5. Select the load mode.

    - **Replace** — Replaces and overwrites all existing data with new data based on overlapping dates. Replace is the default and the most commonly used option.
    - **Upsert** — Inserts the new data by updating main entity keys that exist in previous files. New main entity keys are then inserted into the data as new rows of data.
    - **Incremental** — Adds the new data alongside the old data.
    - **Total Replace** — Deletes all existing data every time data is ingested.
