# Configure Custom Attributes for Einstein Recommendations

You can create custom attributes to use with your recommendations. Unmapped fields are automatically used to make recommendations. For streaming updates, Custom Attributes Configuration is available after Marketing Cloud Engagement starts receiving data from your site.

Consider using these types of field tags:

- Categories and subcategories—Men’s, Women’s, Kids, Coats, Shoes
- Brands—Nike, Adidas, Under Armour
- Seasons—Fall, Spring
- Topics—Politics, Sports, Lifestyle
- Interests—Hiking, Golf, Cosmetics

Avoid these tags:

- Binary (yes or no) values—We recommend that you use binary values only when they have the most impact.
- Sizes or colors and other SKU-level attributes—The recommendation engine aggregates behavior at the Product Code level. Attributes at the SKU level can impact results.

1. In Einstein Recommendations, hover over Admin and select **Implementation**.
2. Scroll to Custom Attributes.
3. Click **Custom Attribute Configuration**.
4. Select all the fields included in the catalog.
5. Save the configuration.
