# Quiet Notifications in MobilePush

Quiet notifications for iOS 12 and later versions are enabled but not shown to the user as an alert. Instead, notifications go to the notification center without an alert, badge, or sound, and the user must swipe to see their notifications for an app. Users do not opt out, but notifications are delivered to the notification center to be viewed later. Users can determine their level of engagement for a specific app.

Important Quiet notifications and provisional push notifications are separate features. Provisional push is the permission: the app delivers notifications on iOS before the user grants full notification permission. Quiet push is the delivery experience: notifications appear in Notification Center with no banner, sound, or badge. Users with provisional authorization see quiet notifications. Users who opted in can also choose quiet delivery. To target users by permission in Journey Builder, see [Provisional Push Notifications in iOS](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mc_mp_provisional_push_in_ios.htm&type=5&language=en_US).

Key Facts

- App developers enable quiet notifications, and they not enabled in the Marketing Cloud Engagement or the SDK.
- Devices on SDK version 6.2.x or later can track quiet notification status.
- iOS 12 and later versions support quiet notifications.
- Android does not currently support quiet notifications.

## Send Quiet Notifications

When your app developer enables quiet notifications in MobilePush, app users on devices with iOS 12 or later can choose whether their notifications are delivered prominently or quietly. Users can make this selection when they download the app, in the notification center, or in the app settings.

Once quiet notifications are enabled, users can re-enable prominent notifications by navigating to settings. The QuietPushEnabled attribute allows you to identify those contacts whose devices have quiet push enabled. [Create a filtered list](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mc_mp_create_filtered_list.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "A filtered list is a list of contacts who are filtered based on their demographic or interest data, such as ZIP code, income, products purchased, or birth date. In MobilePush for Marketing Cloud Engagement, you can use a filtered list to send push messages to a specific audience based on their demographics, such as age, gender, or interests.") and use QuietPushEnabled with the following filter criteria:

- is **True**: All contacts who have quiet push enabled.
- is **False**: All contacts who do not have quiet push enabled. Android devices are false.
- is **not null**: All contacts who have quiet push enabled or disabled.
- is **null**: All existing contacts in the system who have not made a registration call after this feature was implemented in August 2019. It is also null for all apps and devices that are not running on SDK 6.2.x versions or later.
