# Considerations for Using Engagement Shortener in India

Before using the Marketing Cloud Engagement shortener, keep these considerations in mind.

- To use a custom domain, get the custom domain and the header (Sender ID) approved in the Digital Ledger Technology (DLT) portal. Then, purchase the necessary Stock keeping Unit (SKU) from Salesforce. For more information, see [Requesting an SMS Custom Domain for Shortened Links](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mc_moc_custom_domain_for_links.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Instead of using a generic Salesforce domain, enhance your brand recognition by using a custom domain for links shortened with the Marketing Cloud Engagement shortener. Each business unit can have one custom domain. After your custom domain is set up, all links that are in scheduled and in-progress sends use the custom domain.").
- If you want to use a generic domain, ask your account executive to confirm the domain because the domain can vary across different environments. You can also verify the domain in the message preview. After you confirm, get the domain and header approved in the DLT portal.

For example, https://x.sfmsg.co/header/aoRFINCUF, where x can vary for each environment.
- Make sure that the links that you want to shorten comply with TRAI regulations by getting them approved in the DLT portal.
- The domain and header in the SMS text are case-sensitive and must match the DLT-approved domain and header.
- Before you launch a campaign, review the header and domain in the message preview.
