# WhatsApp-First Business Account Statuses for Marketing Cloud Engagement

The status of your WhatsApp Business account or channel tells you what you can do with your account and helps you figure out your next steps. An account or channel is marked as active, pending, error, or disabled.

## Active

An active account or channel is successfully registered and ready to use within Journey Builder.

## Pending

An account is marked as pending for one of two reasons.

- The account and phone number are successfully registered, but Meta hasn’t approved the account yet. It can take up to 48 hours for Meta to approve an account.

Resolution—Wait a few moments, and then refresh the accounts list. If the account is approved, the status changes to active.
- The account setup is incomplete.

Resolution—To restore your setup, click **Add Account** and use the same account details that you provided during the initial sign-up. To complete the sign-up flow, register and authenticate your business phone number. Wait for Meta to approve the account.

## Error

An error status indicates that the account and phone number aren’t properly registered.

Resolution—Determine why registration has failed, and then follow the appropriate steps.

- If you closed the embedded sign-up window before completing the setup process, click **Add Account** to restore your setup. Use the same account details that you provided during the initial sign-up.
- If your phone number isn’t verified, make sure that it’s active and follows the WhatsApp guidelines. Only active phone numbers can receive the code required for two-factor authentication, which confirms that you own the number. A business phone number must follow international formatting and be reachable internationally, Also, it must be new to the WhatsApp Business API. Your phone number can’t be a short code or toll-free number and can’t use interactive voice response (IVR).
- If your phone number is registered in the Android, iPhone, or Business Application versions of WhatsApp, delete the WhatsApp account associated with that phone number. A phone number can’t be associated with more than one WhatsApp account at a time.

## Disabled

You can’t use a disabled account or channel in WhatsApp. An account can be disabled in these cases.

- Your account repeatedly violates high-risk policy categories listed in the [WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy](https://business.whatsapp.com/policy).

Examples of prohibited use include adult content, alcohol or tobacco sales, or messages related to drugs, gambling, or unsafe ingestible supplements.
- Your business violates the [WhatsApp Terms of Service](https://www.whatsapp.com/legal/terms-of-service).
- Multiple users block or report the number in a short period after receiving messages from your business.
- Your business repeatedly goes over its messaging limits, which is the number of notification messages that you can send from a single phone number in 24 hours.

To check your messaging limits, from the dropdown list for your active WhatsApp Business account, select **Phone Numbers**.

Resolution—To find out why your account has been disabled and file an appeal, click the account’s **Disabled** status and review the alerts in your overview page.
