# Create a Journey

Use a Contact Data entry event to fire events in Journey Builder using a Marketing Cloud Engagement automation or an API entry event.

Firing an event affects all journeys with an entry event that uses this event source data extension.

1. Drag **Event** onto the canvas and click it.
2. Select the Contact Data Event Type.
3. Click **Next**.
4. Click **Choose Data Extension** and select a sendable data extension. Use the same sendable data extension in the automation you define to fire the event.
5. Configure the entry event as needed.
6. Save the entry event.
