# Create Landing Pages with CloudPages

A landing page is a key part of many marketing campaigns. In CloudPages, a landing page is also a building block of a microsite. Use pages to build awareness, collect prospect data, and promote events or encourage downloads.

If you have one or more private domains assigned to your account, you can also create pages at the root level or create pages for error handling, such as for 404, 500, or 503 errors. You can have one of each of these page types per ‌private domain.

Before you begin, make sure that you have access to [CloudPages](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mc_cp_cloud_pages_permissions.htm&language=en_US) and [Content Builder](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mc_ceb_content_builder_permissions.htm&language=en_US).

## Create a Landing Page

1. In CloudPages, create a landing page.
    1. Create a folder, and then click **Create**.
    2. Open the folder, and then click **Add Content** | **Landing Page**.
2. In the Landing Page window, if the private domains feature is enabled, define the URL settings.
3. Save the landing page and then select a layout.
4. In the editor, drag blocks onto the canvas, and configure them in the Content and Block Settings panes. Your changes are autosaved.
5. To add customized content, add Smart Capture or Code Resource blocks to your landing page.
6. Publish your page now or schedule a later publishing date.

## Create a Root-Level Landing Page

1. Select and open a CloudPages folder, and then add a new landing page.
2. In the Landing Page window **URL** dropdown, select a private domain and leave the site key field blank.
3. Click **Next** and save the landing page.
4. Select a layout.
5. In the editor, add content to the page as needed.
6. Publish your page now or schedule a later publishing date. When published, the page URL will be at the root domain.

## Create a Custom Page for Error Handling

1. Select and open a CloudPages folder, and then add a new landing page.
2. In the Landing Page window **URL** dropdown, select a private domain.
3. Under **Advanced**, select the Error Content for 403, 404, or 500 errors.
4. Click **Next** and save the landing page.
5. Select a layout.
6. In the editor, add content to the error page as needed.
7. Publish your page now or schedule a later publishing date.
