# Use a Text Content Block

Use the text content block to create text-based reusable email content in Content Builder

1. Type content in the editor window.
2. Use editor controls to format and style your text.

    Tip
    
    HTML code pasted from Word can cause formatting changes that affect your email preview. To prevent formatting problems, use Paste from Word to paste from Notepad or Word Document.
    
    When using HTML in a Text block or Free Form block, use valid HTML 4.
    
    Because the editor can modify the HTML in these blocks to standardize the editor view display, consider using the HTML block or Code Snippets if this is an issue.

    The text content block outputs HTML, not plain text. To output text-only, [Create a Code Snippet](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mc_ceb_create_code_snippet.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Use code snippets in Marketing Cloud Engagement Content Builder to save reusable bits of HTML, AMPscript, and Guide Template Language. Insert snippets when editing HTML via the Code Snippets toolbar selector, or by typing the Customer Key value for the snippet followed by the Tab key. You can also create a code snippet content block by clicking Create > Content Blocks > Code Snippet. You can reference Code Snippets with the AMPscript ContentBlockByKey and ContentBlockByID functions.").
