# Add Content to a Template

Use one or more options to add content in Content Builder to display in the email.

1. Drag one or more blocks from the Blocks tab to create content in your template, and follow the instructions according to the type of block selected.
2. To select existing content to add to your template, select **Content**. You can also search to find saved content and drag the content directly from search.
3. To drag a grouping of blocks to the canvas, select **Layouts**.
4. To set or change template styles, select **Design**. You can also lock and unlock features to restrict edit access to certain style elements in your template. See [Lock a Content Area](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mc_ceb_lock_a_content_area.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Follow these steps to lock content areas in Content Builder. This feature allows you to add content to a template and then lock the content. You cannot change that content when using that template to create an email.").
5. Duplicate, edit, nest, or delete blocks with the Tree View.

In the Tree View, you can see and edit the email structure without scrolling the preview or dragging blocks. The Tree View is optimized for screen reader and keyboard navigation.
6. To insert more content areas in your template, follow these steps:

You can place a content box anywhere a table can be placed. If you're using HTML tables, you can include one content box per tag.

    1. Click **Code View**.
    2. Place your cursor in the HTML code at the location where you want the content area to appear in the template.
    3. Click **Insert Code Snippet**.
    4. Click **Content Area**.
    5. Place the content area between the open and close body tag. To size and format the content box you’ve created, add formatting tags.

Note When you edit a template, the edits don’t automatically affect emails already created from that template. Deleting a template doesn't delete the emails created from that template.
7. To view the full HTML, click **Code View**.

The full HTML of the email displays in a view-only pane on the left. A lock icon indicates that you can’t edit the HTML.

Note When editing template HTML, a new option at the bottom of the HTML editor lets you toggle to the full view of the HTML. You can’t edit HTML in this view, and block HTML is highlighted.
