# Context Definition for Global Promotions Management

Global Promotions Management provides the Eligible Promotions List API and the Promotion Evaluation and Execution API to interact with your external systems. The payload structure of these APIs depends on context definitions and Salesforce provides a standard context definition that works for most common use cases. If your external systems—such as shopping sites, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and global distribution systems (GDS)—use a different structure, you can create and use custom context definitions based on the structure of your cart in those systems to make integrations easier.

Note

Each release introduces new capabilities to Global Promotions Management that can modify the standard CartDetailGetEligiblePromotion context definition. Review the latest Release Notes to identify and apply these changes to your custom context definitions.

- **[Ways to Work with Context Service in Global Promotions Management](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.global_promotions_management_setup_context_service_ways.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Before choosing between using the standard context definition and creating custom context definitions, admins must understand how each type of context definition work with pricing promotions.
- **[Extend Standard Context Definition](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.global_promotions_management_setup_context_service_extend.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
The standard CartDetailGetEligiblePromotion context definition consists of nodes and context tags that are required to configure pricing promotions with different types of promotion and promotion rule eligibility criteria. To enable marketing managers to use the standard context definition for pricing promotions, admins extend and activate the standard context definition.
- **[Promotion Context Definition Customizations](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.global_promotions_management_setup_context_service_definition_customize.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Salesforce admins configure context definitions based on their company's unique business needs. Based on the requirements that marketing managers have for their promotions' configuration and that system integrators have for the Eligible Promotions API, the admin customizes the context definition for promotions.
- **[Configure Rule Libraries for Promotion Context Definitions](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.global_promotions_management_setup_context_service_rule_library.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Global Promotions Management uses rule libraries to let marketing managers use context definition tags in promotion rule eligibility criteria. Rule libraries also enable the Eligible Promotions API to evaluate all active promotions available in the org and find the promotions and rules that are eligible for customer carts. If the admin and marketing managers decide to use different context definitions for the company's various promotions, the admin must create a rule library for each context definition.
