# Create a Switch Widget

A switch widget is an interactive filter widget that is available in the widget library. You can switch or add measurements or dimensions.

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small ">
        <colgroup>
          <col style="width:50%">
          <col style="width:50%">
        </colgroup>
        <thead class="slds-text-title_caps ">
          <tr class="">
            <th scope="colgroup" class="slds-cell-wrap" colspan="2" style="vertical-align:top;" id="d16953e38">REQUIRED USER ROLE</th>
          </tr>
        </thead>
        <tbody>
          <tr class="">
            <td data-label="REQUIRED USER ROLE" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d16953e38 ">To create a switch widget </td>

            <td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d16953e38 ">Admin and Power User</td>

          </tr>
        </tbody>
      </table>

The switch widget offers two work modes:

- **Switch** — Instantly override dimensions and measurements in selected widgets or even at the page level. For example, let’s say you want to toggle between several measurements among the widgets on your page, such as total conversions and revenue. All you do is define the measurements or dimensions you want to be able to switch, and decide at what page level or for specific widgets. After adding a switch widget, you can change the widget view to display different fields while preserving the widget’s settings. This mode is useful when you want to show static data from different points of view.
- **Add** — Gain more page design flexibility by adding dimensions or measurements, rather than switching them. In this mode, you can add dimensions or measurements one after the other without switching out the existing dimensions and measurements. You can add dimensions or measurements from multiple switch widgets in any order. You can also use multiple switch widgets in Add Mode and organize dimensions or measurements into categories.

Note Using multiple switch widgets within the same target widgets is only supported in Add Mode. Switch Mode works as a single switch per target widget.

1. Navigate to **Visualize**.
2. Select the dashboard, and then select the page you want to add a widget to.
3. To edit the selected page, click the pencil icon.
4. To add a new widget, click the **+** icon.
5. Scroll down to the Interactive section and click **Switch Dimensions** or **Switch Measurements**.

A new switch widget is added to your page from which you can preview any change that is made to the widget. These options are available in the **Data** tab:

- **Name** — Name your widgets so that you can easily find it when using other features in the system, such as advanced export. You can click the eye icon next to the widget name to hide your widget title from displaying on the page.
- **Add data** — To add data to the widget, click the **+** icon.

    Note You can add up to 300 measurements or dimensions to a switch widget, allowing you to present a large selection of options. Each widget has its own limit for the number of measurements it can display.
- **Widget Mode** — Select the switch widget mode you want to use:
    - **Switch** — Select this mode to override dimensions or measurements within the target widgets, or to all the widgets on the dashboard page.
    - **Add** — Select this mode to add dimensions or measurements within the target widgets, or to all the widgets on the dashboard page.
- **Set Default Values** — Define values that can be set as the default-selected values for the switch widget each time the page loads.
- **Apply to Specific Widgets** — Apply the switch widget selections to specific widgets on the page. If no widgets are selected, then the switch widget is applied to all the widgets on the page.
- **Retain User Selection** — This checkbox is selected by default. It automatically saves the switch widget settings that are applied per user to a page or dashboard. Then, when switching between dashboards or pages, the same settings appear. If you don’t want to save the switch widget selections per user, clear this checkbox.

After you finish configuring the **Data** tab, configure the **Design** tab. These options are available:

- **Filtering Display** — Select how to display the filter selections, either in a list or in a dropdown box.
- **Selection Method** — Define whether users can select one filter selection or multiple filter selections.
- **List Display** — If you selected **List** as the filtering display, select how to display the list:
    - **Vertical** — Lists the filter selections on individual rows.
    - **Horizontal** — Lists the filter selections one after the other, on the same row.
- **Limit Selection** — If you selected **Multiple** as the selection method, select this checkbox to limit the number of selections a user can select within the switch widget. Then insert the number of options you want to allow.
- **Show Search Box** — This checkbox is selected by default. This option inserts a search box into the widget so that you can search for specific dimensions or measurements to filter by. If you don’t want to add a search box to the widget, clear this checkbox.
- **Show Order Indicators** — If you selected **Multiple** as the selection method, select this checkbox to show the order of the dimensions or measurements that are applied to the switch widget. This method is important when you have multiple dimensions and the order can affect the display, for example in a table.
- **Use Date Dimensions As First Sort** — This option is only relevant for switch dimensions widgets. Select this checkbox to override the target widget first sort value, and set it as the date dimension instead.
- **Override Measurements Settings** — This option is only relevant for switch measurement widgets. Select this checkbox to override the default settings for the measurements in your workspace when using switch mode. This option is useful for when you switch measurements in a chart and you want to define the style of the measurements directly from the switch widget and not from the chart widget.

    After you select the checkbox, navigate back to the Data tab and click on the measurement you want to define the settings for. From here you can define the following:

    - **Color** — The display color of the measurement.
    - **Display** — The display of the measurement in the chart — bar, area, spline, or line.
    - **Type** — The type of measurement — number, percentage, duration, or currency.
    - **Precision** — The number of decimal places.
    - **Override Currency Symbol** — The currency symbol to display.
    - **Friendly Formatting** — The format to display large numbers, for example 1,000,000 as 1M.
    - **Highlighting Rules** — The highlighting rule to apply to the measurement.
