# Create a Rich Text Widget

The rich text widget allows you to enter freestyle text in your page and edit it with an editor. You can also make a query and then display the results of that query within the widget. You can also style the text any way you want.

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small ">
        <colgroup>
          <col style="width:50%">
          <col style="width:50%">
        </colgroup>
        <thead class="slds-text-title_caps ">
          <tr class="">
            <th scope="colgroup" class="slds-cell-wrap" colspan="2" style="vertical-align:top;" id="d30807e38">REQUIRED USER ROLE</th>
          </tr>
        </thead>
        <tbody>
          <tr class="">
            <td data-label="REQUIRED USER ROLE" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d30807e38 ">To create a widget </td>

            <td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d30807e38 ">Admin and Power User</td>

          </tr>
        </tbody>
      </table>

The most common uses of rich text widgets are to:

- Write notes and add commentary to pages.
- Dynamically return query performance results in a textual manner.
- Create simple headlines or sections.

1. Navigate to **Visualize**.
2. Select the dashboard, and then the page you want to add a widget to.
3. To edit the selected page, click the pencil icon.
4. To add a new widget, click the **+** icon.
5. Scroll down to the **Elements** section, and click **Rich Text**.

    After you add a rich text widget, customize the information you want to display in the widget. The rich text widget is set up just like all other widgets and offers basic editing options. If you want to create a widget using HTML, CSS, or Server-Side JavaScript, use a custom widget instead.

    Note It’s possible to switch a rich text widget to a custom widget under the **Data** tab when editing the widget. Selecting the custom widget icon takes all the content from your rich text widget and converts it into code in the custom widget. It’s important to note that this process is irreversible—you can’t switch a custom widget back to a rich text widget.
6. After you create a rich text widget, customize the information displayed in the widget by opening the Rich Text Editor. Click the pencil icon next to **Rich Text Editor**.

From here you can customize the information displayed in the widget. These options are available:

- **Query** — Queries your data based on the tokens selected and displays the result in the widget.

    Syntax: {Query(Field Name, type, delimiter)}

    Example: `{Query(Campaign Name, none, @)}` displays the following:

- **Filter** — Displays the filters applied to the widget.

    Syntax: {Filter(Field Name, type, delimiter)}

    Example: `{Filter(Campaign Name, list, )}` displays the following:

    ![list element example 2](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-mktg-salesforce_datorama-264-0-0-production-enus/d38a342d-dd4a-4af8-8343-f372280a75dd/salesforce_datorama/images/visualize/dato_viz_element_text2.png)
- **Table** — Displays a table of the fields selected in the **FIELDS** section. To display the table, you must select whether to include a Total row by including true or false in the token. True displays the Total row, false doesn’t.

    Syntax: {Table(true/false)}

    Example: `{Table(true)}` displays the following:

    ![element table example](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-mktg-salesforce_datorama-264-0-0-production-enus/d38a342d-dd4a-4af8-8343-f372280a75dd/salesforce_datorama/images/visualize/dato_viz_element_table_example.png)

These query tokens can be used:

- **Dimension** – {Query.Dimension Name} — Displays all the dimension values available in the widget.
- **Measurement** – {Query.Measurement Name} — Displays all the measurement values available in the widget.
- **Table**– {Query.Table} — Displays all the dimensions and measurements in a table format. For the **type**, enter your preferred display method. These options are available:

    - none (Concatenated)
    - bullet
    - list
    - Number

    For the delimiter, enter how you want the values to be separated when using concatenate values. When using concatenating values, the display is a string of values separated by a separator of your choice.

Note

- Every dimension and measurement you include in the editor section must also be entered in the FIELDS section.
- A query token retrieves all the available values for that query. To narrow the results, add a filter to the widget.
